This is an image of comet Comet Ikeya - Zhang (C/2002
C1) on 2002-03-07 at 20:26UT. It is a combination of 10, 10 second exposures.
I used my Orion 8" SN and my MX916 at prime focus. I had to crop the image
to get rid of some darkening around the edges. |

C1) on 2002-03-21 at 20:40UT. It is a combination of 10, 10 second exposures.
I used my Orion 8" SN and my MX916 at prime focus. The comet was really
low down, I still managed to get a reasonable image. |

This image was taken on 2002-04-07. I was at a much
darker site away from city lights. It is made up from 5 60 second images
per section of the comet. There are five sections which have been added
together to make the mosaic. I used my MX916 on my Orion 8" f/4 scope.
The comet was only about 15 degrees above the horizon, but it was easily
visible to the unaided eye. I managed to get most of the tail, but not
quite all of it! |
